For the seventh year in a row this November 11 & 12, 2018, Memphis’ ultra-popular Napa Café in Sanderlin Center will become home to one of the hottest fundraisers of the year, Heart Full of Soul to benefit the Stax Music Academy.

The two-night event begins each evening with a reception at 5:30 pm, followed by a multi-course dinner paired with special wines and very special Stax Records songs performed live cabaret-style throughout the dinner by students of the Stax Music Academy. Tickets are $200 per person and may be purchased at

To date, Napa Café has raised more than $170,000 for the nonprofit Stax Music Academy, which is located adjacent to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music at the original site of Stax Records in Memphis. This year’s presenting sponsor is Radians.

In 1967, Stax Records lost its most popular star, Otis Redding, along with all but two members of Stax iconic backing band The Bar-Kays. The following year, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4 and Stax Records lost its entire catalog of masters to another company. Many thought the company would never recover but Stax pulled out all the stops and released 29 new albums by artists such as the Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, and Johnnie Taylor. That era became known as the Stax “Soul Explosion” and this year’s Heart Full of Soul event will celebrate that victorious comeback.

According to Napa Café owner Glenda Hastings, “We started this idea as a simple wine dinner seven years ago, not knowing this would eventually become the second-largest fundraiser of the year for the students of the Stax Music Academy, which is very precious to my staff and me. We couldn’t be more grateful to those who make this a sold-out function now for the past few years, and hope to raise more funding and awareness than ever for the Stax Music Academy.”
